Had another great couple of hours on the beach this morning. The tide was coming in but the pebble bar was still uncovered when I arrived. If I dont bore you I'll spread the pics over two or three posts as I'm still dont trust the site to bomb me out half way through posting pictures.
As always click for a bigger view. Some of them I have left quite large so hope they dont load to slowly.
Andrew
First three are Western Reef Heron - White variant
The next few are a Golden Plover. Normally see these a bit later in the year and normally in small flocks not alone. I also saw a solitary Grey Plover but couldnt manage a picture.
The last two are the Terek Sandpiper who is still hanging out with the Sand Plovers. A better attempt than last week but I still have to come up with a cunning plan to get closer to this very skitish little bird.
I'll stop there for now and hit post, fingers crossed!! Post some more later from this mornings jolly on the beach.
Hi Andrew
Your right about it crashing mid post, what I do now is part post and leave a message I am still posting and then edit and continue to post, I do this 2 or 3 times until finished and it works fine (so far).
Love the 3rd pic of the Heron it looks in shock describing the size of the fish that got away, "it was this big I tell you" and as for the Golden plovers in the early morning light especially the second one thats a photo to die for.

Fantastic photos Andrew, so clear in detail.
Agree, that number three is brill.
Keep them coming.
Viv.
Love them all, the close up of the golden plover looks as though the 'flecks' have been painted on.

Thanks for the comments. Dont often get to see the Golden Plovers so was really pleased with this mornings trip.
Wow, great pics. I presume that's a Pacific Golden Plover rather than Eurasian? Stunning-looking bird.

Hi Aiki, Thanks! Yes, the Golden Plover is the Pacific version (is that the right word?) Unfortunately we seldom get them in the breeding plumage but still great looking birds anyway.
In this case, 'species' would be the right word :) There are three different species of golden plover - Eurasian, Pacific and American. Until quite recently Pacific and American were considered the same species - 'Lesser Golden Plover' - but they were split in 1986. Did some research, and Eurasian Goldies do occur in Oman too but are rare, while American has been recorded at least once.
Stunning pictures, andrew. What a gorgeous shot of the Golden Plover, a very handsom bird.
Feed The Birds....not the cats!!!!
I know....my spelling's crap !!
Thanks BR. He is also very well camoflaged against the brownish rocks/pebbles at low tide.
Great photo's again,
the heron is beautiful, looks like its dipped its feet & legs in a tin of paint
