  • Whooper swans don't turn up at Slimbridge very often......none on the footage I saw and no reports of any there in the last week.
  • Sadly if Whooper Swans are now not seen at Slimbridge, regularly now, Caerlaverock  is now the place to see Whooper Swans in Dumfries in South West Scotland, where Whooper Swans can still be seen in large numbers.

    Regards,

    Ian.

  • In reply to THOMO:

The main WWT places for whooper swans are Caerlaverock, Martin Mere and Welney. That hasn't changed in 50 years. As above, whoopers do appear at Slimbridge (and other WWT reserves) but aren't reliably seen there or in any great numbers. I don't go places to specifically see species, but there haven't been any whoopers there the times I've popped down the road to the reserve (apart from those in the collection).

  • In all my years living in Cheltenham and visiting Slimbridge I never once saw a Whooper there. That doesn't mean they got the odd visitor but it was certainly never commonplace.
