I went on a fantastic trip to Costa Rica in January, and have just finished editing the photos.
Here are some of the better ones (I also have a lot which would easily qualify for the "Bad pics of fab wildlife" thread)
Birds
A nest colony of the Montezuma Oropendola with a couple of birds on guard near Turrialba in the Central Valley.
I loved their song - click on the link above to a recent BBC Tweet of the Day
Whimbrel on a Caribbean beach
A male Anhinga, or snakebird, in the waterways of Tortuguero

Fantastic photos and really interesting to see some very different species, thanks for posting Sue

Yes, the Birdnote site seems to be a US equivalent of Tweet of the Day.
Here's a few more.
Hummingbirds are difficult to capture while perched, but this one obliged, at a distance. I believe it's a Bronze-tailed, or Red-footed, Plumeleteer
This is a clay-coloured thrush, the national bird of Costa Rica
As our guide said, with so many exotic birds to choose from, why did they pick this one? Neighbouring Nicaragua has the blue-crowned motmot, Panama the harpy eagle.
Passerini's Tanagers, queueing for the banana at a reserve feeding station near La Fortuna de Arenal
Great Kiskadee
Pair of Boat-billed Herons
Lovely place - and some great birds :-) I never did get to see the Boat-billed Herons :-(
So very interesting SC, what lovely birds & sounds & those MO nests are something else!! Thanks for posting these great pics, any more to come?
