Was back in Portugal last month and saw a few new species including a cetti's warbler...which unfortunately the cameras memory card messed up and that along with a number of other photos were lost :( But here are a few others I got :)
Finally got an azure winged magpie to sit for a photo!
Black winged kite (taken through the front window of the car)
l
Blue rock thrush - these were one I wanted to see, thought it was a blackbird at first but as something didn't seem to be quite right I took a few photos and was later able to confirm I had a new bird to add to my list!
Moorish Gecko
Zitting Cisticola...name sounds like a dodgy drink but this was another new species!
My personal favourite photo (thanks for the correction in ID Aiki - sanderling!)
Millie & Fly the Border Collies
Very nice! Esp. the kite, such beautiful birds. Sorry to hear of the memory card blip though, how annoying :( Last pic is not Knots, it's Sanderlings :)

Oops thanks for the correction! Was great seeing the kite, saw one last year but it looked so different it took me a while to figure out what it was!
The sanderlings were fun, they were running around at the waters edge so I just stood ahead of them as they came closer and closer. They flew round me to continue along the beach, got the photo right before take off!
Very nice pics, Kat. The Black-winged Kite is a bit special. I was in Portugal a couple of years ago having lunch on a hotel terrace when one flew right overhead. I kicked myself because I'd left the camera in the car. Doh!
I think Sanderlings are great too. I love the way they skitter about on the water's edge like little clockwork toys.

Black winged kites are such beautiful birds, was really nice seeing one especially as there didn't seem to be as many BOP as there were when we went last year. Either that or they were just lazy because it rained quite a bit LOL
You've just pushed me from waiting patiently to counting the days to my trip to Lisbon in April. My birding pal and I did Faro to the spanish border in 2011 , and from Monte Gardo up to Donana National Park in 2012. Great fun and lots of happy birding memories including Montagu's Harriers , Osprey , Booted Eagle and many more.

We're going back next year, maybe I'll get to see an eagle there yet! Did see a harrier but not sure which as it decided to do a vanishing act!
