Darners (the same as our hawkers), and quite appropriately, considering where they were photographed, they look like they could be Canada Darners (Aeshna canadensis).
There are similar darner species though, and the precise pattern on the side of the thorax, which can't be seen properly here, is important for their separation so I may be wrong!
I would love to visit Canada someday (well anywhere in North America really!).

MrT was determined to see a Moose and one obliged. The chipmunks were really cheeky and raced towards us, until to turn tail when we got our cameras out... quite comical really!
I love the moose too. Looks like he's enjoying the wallow whilst keeping a wary eye on you. Great to see the cheeky chipmunks too.
