Two weeks ago I visited Southern Spain and played golf at Villamartin, about 50km west of Alicante. Among the birds I saw were Hoopoe's, Egret's and Parakeet's but one bird caused me much consternation. I didn't photograph it, nor could I get close enough for a positive ID but someone on here may be able to help me. It was predominantly black with a white front with black specks in it and about thrush size, as that is what I originally thought it was. On further inspection it's beak appeared shorter and rounded and was jet black. It also possessed a distinctively piercing black eye.
Any ideas anyone?
The only suggestion I can make is a Ring Ouzel although the bill is usually yellowish. You could take a look at these images on Flickr to see if it might fit.
