Hi Cyprus although it has got a bad reputation for the killing of song birds, it is still a great
place to see some amazing birds, while we were there, they actually did a big raid in the hills near Aiya Napa
and confiscated miles of mist nets, and realeased loads of birds, birdlife cyprus has also got a petition on going
if you have not signed yet please do, they have also just realesed a D.V.D. birds of Cyprus, well worth getting,
It is narrated by Martin the campaign manager of Birdlife Cyprus.
Hi Harrier
So glad to hear you enjoyed your birding in Cyprus,
What did you see?? we would love to see some photo's
I have signed the petition to stop this barbaric practice of killing the song birds,
i have put a link here if anyone would like to sign it
www.gopetition.com/.../call-for-action-against-illegal-bird-trapping-in-cyprus.html
Hi Sugar thanks for posting the link I could not find it, your avatar is my very vaforite butterfly, I am hoping to get to see them next year as that would be a lifer, re pictures I have tried to post some but it will not let me says there is a tecnical fault.
Your welcome with the link,
I understand there is a problem with posting photo's at the moment,
Glad you like my avatar, i took this pic at my local reserve, Strumpshaw Fen,
they have a very healthy population of Swallowtails,
absolutely beautiful little butterfly
I agree cyprus is a brilliant birding location with endemic species (Warbler and Wheatear) found no where else in europe except on passage (N africa anyway so :') )
however, 1million birds have been illegally trapped there this year, so there is a terrible situation for birds.
Malta, Cyprus and many other european countries also kill birds, so the problem is vast, not just in one or two areas.
Yes it is shocking, but up[ to now birdlife cyprus has only managed to get 50.000 signatures on a petition, which would go a long way to making the cypriot goverment sit up and listen, have you signed.
