Hello and Good Morning,
this weekend, May 10th and 11th 2014 there is the German Big Garden Birdwatch. Here it is called "Stunde der Gartenvögel" i.e. "Hour of the Gardenbirds". The rules are the same as for the British Big Garden Birdwatch, except that we don't count other wildlife, but just birds. I've already submitted my results, after counting between 10 and 11 o'clock AM. Would you like to know what I've seen? So here we go:
Woodpidgeon 2
Blackbird 4
House Sparrow 4
Black Redstart 2
Serin 1
Blue Tit 3
Great Tit 1
Coal Tit 1
Robin 1
Swift 5
Blackcap 1
Swallow 6
House Martin 6
Firecrest 1
Raven 1
Green Woodpecker 1
Greenfinch 1
Magpie 1
There were probably many more birds around, but with all the leaves on the trees they are not easy to spot.
Kind regards, Bente
Hello Bente. Very impressive for just one hour! I haven't seen swallows or house martins here yet. Good to know that the birdwatch programme is international. They must be building up a good bank of knowledge.
bye for now
A good list, Bente. Not many of us in the UK would be able to put Black Redstart and Firecrest or Raven for that matter on our sighting list.

"Let loose the Kraken!"
Hi Bente. That's a great selection of birds that you've seen in the garden this morning, five of which I've never seen.

Hello Bente, well done on your bird count. 6 of those I have not had but heard off.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Wow Bente, what a wonderful list of birds during your bird watch hour, I can only dream of seeing some of those species ! well done, looks like you had a good count.
