Autumn in Crete

A few pics from the end of August, start of September - just moving into migration season...

Three of a flock of 21 Purple Herons above Kissamos Bay.

One of many, many Spotted Flycatchers

Winchat

Red-backed Shrike (f) - again, one of many

Common Buzzard

Black-eared Wheatear (quite a few Wheatears around, these, the black-throated variant and plain Wheatears)

Bee-eater

and with a bee. (Very early in the morning, so the light was poor).

Stonechat

Bonelli's Eagle

Willow Warbler - quite a few of these around.

Swallows

Gryphon vultures

Great holiday - mostly hiking, but a good bit of birding too. Ones that got away from the camera included Golden Oriole, Night Heron, Kingfishers, Icterine Warbler, Golden Eagle (well, a poor ID shot) and the usually elusive Sardinian Warblers - curse them ;-)

"Let loose the Kraken!"
