Hi guys, i'm off to Italy, Sorrento on Monday and cannot wait. Are there any nice birds I should look out for over there that we would not normally see back home?
All my bird books I have are just for British birds etc. I'll just keep my camera handy I guess and try and snap something
We hope so, its our honeymoon so an extra special holiday
Congratulations to you both.

Congratulations to you both for Saturday and have a great honeymoon in Sorrento.
I've never been there but I was in Sicily a few years ago at this time of year. This is the peak time of year for migrants coming from Africa so there ought to be quite a lot of passerines heading north. One of the reasons for the trip was to see all the raptors that use the narrow crossing point at the Straits of Messina to go into mainland Italy. We saw birds like Honey Buzzard, Black Kites, Pallid Harrier and others. They may migrate up the coast but I suspect many will disperse over the mainland if the haven't been shot by hunters.
The migration wasn't as good as it can be because it was at the time that volcano in Iceland blew its top and there was a northerly wind blowing but it was still OK.
I notice that Naturetrek do a trip to the Sorrento peninsular so you could have a look at the trip reports if you are that keen.

Are you sure the future OH will give you permission to go birdwatching. LOL
