The season so far:
33(11) and Maya both arrived back within hours of each other on the 22nd March. Maya surprised us this year by laying four eggs on the 4th, 7th, 10th and 13th April. Currently both adults are taking turns to incubate the eggs which are expected to hatch in the second/third week in May.

Thanks Tiger for the countdown clock. Just a couple of hours and the hatching window opens :-)
About last year, if I recall right, Maya delayed incubating the first egg. This year she never so I think we could very well see the first egg hatch earlier than 40 days.
My guess is Thursday :-)

No the hatching window does not open for 48 hours. First eggs normally hatch on 37 days or later. It is second and third eggs that hatch on 36 and 35 days respectively.

Thanks for the info and link to stats, Tiger.
I always thought hatching could be anytime from 35 days but 37 days was common as I have always referred to Rutland's Osprey Facts . Copy>>
I didn't realise that the 35 days was the 3rd chick - so thanks for that :-)
Well it is like a lot of things. An error is created and then keeps being repeated.
In 2007 EJ's second clutch hatched very early but they were weak and all died.

33 brought Maya a fish just after 7pm so she has been fed and is now settled for the evening.
