I had a lovely visit to Leighton Moss on Tuesday morning, the place looked stunning in the autumn morning light and there was mist over the mere’s and above the reeds. I headed straight down to the grit feeders for my first ever sighting of a Breaded Tit and was confronted by a huge crowd of at least 20 birders crowding around the path.
I took my place at the back of the crowed after a pair of birders abruptly said I was in their way, and stood next to a few other birders who were very unhappy that many within the crowd were talking among themselves and made comments about birders who had their cameras.
I stood like everyone else in the cold and saw my first female a Breaded Tit and I didn’t really care if people had a chat or took a picture, perhaps some people got up on the wrong side of the bed that morning or have a dislike for photographers, either way I was delighted with the sighting despite the cold and the early morning moaning!

great pictures well done
Great shots. You can't please all of the people all of the time. Never mind-they'll get over it! It is so exciting to see your first bearded tits of the season on the grit trays. I havent seen them yet must get down there. Paul

Nice pictures and I like your webpage.
Not been up to Leighton for a few months so I'll better get up there soon.
Hi guys, thanks for the kind words about my Blog and pics, I think they would be a lot better with a Canon 400mm lens, let’s see what Christmas brings!
I have just created a NEW RSPBs Burton Mere Wetlands Facebook page if anyone wants to ‘Like’ it they can keep up to date, and see more about this stunning reserve on the Dee.
www.facebook.com/RspbBurtonMereWetlands
There is already a FB Group covering this area: www.facebook.com/.../55050774537
Good luck with the Christmas wish list - assuming the funds wouldn't stretch to the 500mm f4 (my favourite) or 400mm f2.8 suggest the 400mm f5.6 - better IQ than the 100-400!

The bearded tits are very popular and I'm glad you saw them Austin. They very rarely mind people being close and talking, indeed we take a guided walk down there every Wednesday morning in October at 9 am and they happily pick up the grit whilst the walk guides explain what it happening. Equally, they are unphased by people taking pictures. As always when birding though it is important to ensure that everyone gets a fair share of the views. The space near the grit trays is not massive, so being courteous to fellow bird watchers and wildlife lovers is needed to make sure that everyone gets a chance to see them.
