We have struggled to identify the large flocks of geese on the stubble fields in the village throughout the summer. I thought they were greylags but all the bird guides tell me that they are only winter visitors. Can anyone enlighten me?
Greylag and canada geese are the two most likely species of geese to be seen in England in Summer. Which bird guides are you referring to? I haven't found anything stating they're Winter only in Lancashire, incl a quick look at RSPB website and a flick through all my books.
