Hi everyone.
This is my first post, so forgive me if its not in the right place/format etc.
I joined the RSPB about a month ago, and kindly received my nest box in the post a week later. The following day, it went up in the tree behind my garden and just 5 days later, after much inspection, a pair of Blue Tits have taken up residence! Its fabulous news for my husband and I who are avid bird watchers! So, it's been around 2 weeks now of constant coming and goings with nest material etc. Anyone know, when they should start (if of course they do..) laying eggs? We can hear them tap tapping away inside the box so presume nest building is still going on at the moment, but it's our first ever view of a Blue Tit home in the making so not sure how things should progress, nature being kind to them of course. Its all very exciting stuff though!
Sharon.
Hello Sharon, welcome to the forum from West Kent.
So pleased to hear about your new nest box being a success so soon. See if you can get a photo of the blue tits going in and out and post it on the forum for us all to enjoy.
I put a whole load of new boxes up in the winter and although they created a huge amount of interest initially, I am not sure if they are in use. I have 6 altogether and two are in use already, but the new ones may not have caught on yet.
Hope to hear about your blue tits as the weeks go by.
bye for now
Hi Sharon, welcome from me in Hampshire. Thats brilliant that your nestbox is occupied so soon. Yes keep us updated.

Thank you for the very warm welcome everyone! :) I have just taken a photo with my not so fabulous camera, of my nest box with one of the new occupants peeping out. Although not the greatest quality, it was a lucky shot! Not sure how to add it here but its in my gallery if you would like to see it. Have a great day!
Sharon
Ahh Gotcha. thanks for that Alan. Its easy when you know how isn't it!
well done Sharon
They will start laying when nest is complete. incubation 12 to 16 days
They can lay up to 12 eggs and they won't start sitting till eggs are layed
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong
Happy watching
Ray

hehe, love that blue tit sticking out his/her head out the hole- best of luck to them, and have fun watching them.
Still listening out for tiny tweeting but its perhaps a little too early yet. Got my elderly neighbours at it too now. When they think no one is watching, I see them standing almost under the tree straining to listen :) Its all very exciting!
I'm so envious Sharon. I still see blue tits pecking away at the holeof my new box but no sign of nesting yet! Hope they do well and you take more great photos!
Hooked - definitely! lol But I am slightly distracted as in the gable end of our house, house sparrows have a permanent home there and there's possibly little ones there already! They were nest repairing about a month back and usually have at least 2 broods a year so fingers crossed there too! If pics are possible though Hadriana, I will post them straight away :)
