Blue tits emptying their nest?

Please could someone answer this question, we have a pair of blue tits started building a nest yesterday evening and now this morning they have emptied a lot of it out? I got a lovely camera bird box for Christmas and have been watching progress with interest on the TV screen while being very careful to stay well away from the box, now I'm disappointed to watch them taking stuff out. We had a box in the same position last year which housed a successful brood. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Jane x

Hello Jane,

unfortunately I am not an expert. My idea is that it could be another couple of Blue Tits taking the material away for a nest of their own, and so stealing it from the couple in your nest box. I am sure that I have heard about other birds doing such a thing, but I am not certain about Blue Tits. Maybe other people here have a better idea.

Thanks! That's a possibility! They haven't abandoned it completely and there's time yet! I wonder if they put some nesting material in to reserve it and have chosen a different site!?
