Nuthatch Using Blue Tit Nest box

To my amazement a pair of nuthatches have just started to build a nest in a purpose made Blue Tit woodcrete nestbox with 3 x 26mm entrance holes! This is supposed to defy all accepted theories about the 32mm size of hole needed for them. Obviously it's early days and still time for them to abandon it prior to egg laying. More bizarre is the fact that the box is only 8 feet from my house and only 6 feet off the ground on a fence with no tree or plant cover. Has anybody ever come across this before?
