Yeah can do I just don't want to scare them off but I don't need to go outside to do this as I can do it from my balcony overlooking the box which is only about 10 feet away. I forgot to add that it is south west facing but living in Bolton that should not be a problem sun or rain wise and it's woodcrete which are much cooler than wooden boxes I'm told?
There was a turf war over that Yat Rock nestbox about three seasons back when I was doing my "Information Assistant" stuff. Every morning the Nuthatch moved in, ejected anyone else's nest material and stayed until lunchtime when the Blue Tits repossessed the box until the following morning. This went on for days but I think the Nuthatch secured permanent residence in the end......
Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?
I've just taken a photo of box when they're not there to be on safe side how do I share this on this topic page?
Hi We have slimier blue tits in nest box for 2 weeks now they are fighting there corner at the moment would the nuthatch destroy the blue tit eggs?
No they wouldn't Hugh but you must put up another box for them asap and I recommend a Schweggler woodcrete box. Mine has 3 holes and designed for Blue Tits at 26mm but Nuthatches seem to love it even though holes are supposed to be too small! Both species will tolerate each other close by as my neighbour has Tits nesting in his box just 25 feet away
