Had the opportunity to spend yesterday afternoon there (thank goodness we didn't have today's weather!!). It is a small mixed woodland with a couple of small ponds, a running stream and a few feeding stations.
Saw bullfinches, chaffinches, goldfinches & greenfinches; great, blue, coal and long tailed tits, crows, magpies and (heard but did not see) jays. There were also blackbirds, robins, dunnock, thrushes and starlings about as well as a few grey squirrels. My biggest surprise though was seeing some reed buntings! Not because they are uncommon, but because of the location! I know that there are many reservoirs / lakes in the surrounding area, but still didn't expect to find them in a woodland setting! Took a few photos as ever although it was a bit dark under the trees!! Only those at the tops were drenched in sunshine!
A magpie
A dunnock checking out the spill from the feeding station
A male bullfinch on one of the tables
and another watching from the surrounding trees
A blackbird
A watchful grey squirrel (enjoying the sun I think!)!
A wary crow
A starling singing his heart out as the sun was going down
and the reed buntings!
It's quite a small reserve but with plenty to see!

Brilliant photos MarJus and it sounds a lovely reserve - you have quite a few near you, lucky thing!
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Thanks Squirrel! This one is about 3 hours away and last week's was 1 1/2 to 2 hours away. It's a long story but I had the opportunity to visit these reserves whilst my boss was visiting a customer!
Hi MarJus
Fabulous pictures, and I love your report.
I would take the opportunity to see a reserve (or two) if the chance arose
Love to hear more of this particular reserve
Regards
Kathy and Dave

Beautiful pictures as ever MarJus. I am ashamed to admit this reserve is almost on my doorstep but I have never been. After your report and photos I shall now make the effort.
Cheers, Linda.

Lovely photographs once again MarJus but obviously not on a local reserve. Guess you have an very understanding boss, who leaves you free to do your own thing.
Great photos MarJus. What a treat to see bullfinches and reed buntings. Love the cheeky squirrel ;-)
There is something new to learn everyday...

Nice one MarJus, thanks for sharing great photo's as always. Ace Magpie shot! don't get many up here.
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
