The Den of Alyth is a wonderful walk in steep sided gorge with Alyth Burn flowing through it, it's almost Jurassic in there under the canopy of trees with Ferns , mosses and lichen everywhere, great for fungus too at the right time. It's a walk that is usually pretty quiet and very peaceful with a good few birds flitting through.
I saw my first Spotted Flycatcher here and now go back each year to check for them again so, I thought I'd use this thread to collect up all my shots from down there and if you're ever in this area, add it to you itinerary, it isn't a long walk but just beautiful.
These shots are from April 2024, as we walked by the Burn, this Mallard was probing under the running water for tasty morsels I guess and it just caught my eye.
I know I have a tendency to ignore some birds and Mallard are often overlooked because they can be so common but also so beautiful.
Sorry! Can I help you?????
I don't go down there often enough, the light can be tricky but there can also be some great opportunities so I'll keep adding here.
