Where to find Birds

Hi,

here's an idea-  I notice periodically in the forums that a common comment is ' I've never seen a ******* '

So if anyone is keen to see a particular species why not ask on here and between us I think we could find some good locations :)

    Hi Seymour

    I agree that's a great idea.

I'm one of those who regularly says 'I've never seen a...' . Last night it was Redstart, and you were very helpful with your suggestion of where to try.

A Kingfisher would be good too....

I saw a pair of Lapwings today flapping around together in their strange mating dance, but they were too far away for me to get a good enough photo. I also saw a pair of Kestrels, who were also very shy of the camera. :-(

    I will persevere tomorrow.

    Best wishes Chris

    Hi,

the annual Berks bird report should give you some ideas.  I'll have a think as well.  Wraysbury springs to mind too.

Great idea for a thread, Seymour

    Hi Sooty

You do not state where you stay regarding 'sighted' Water Rails

Dave and I saw a lot of great viewing of Water Rail at Titchwell Reserve last year. Meadow walk area, and the associated hide there showed the Water Rails at their best.

Hi everyone would love to see Water Rail but strangely even though we go to lots of places where they are regularly seen we always miss them even though we see the rarer birds at those places, just one of those strange wildlife things.

I myself live in the NE and in newcastle there is a place called Jesmond Dene. There is a river running alongside and I have seen a kingfisher skimming this river before.

Thanks Coal Jesmond Dene is only 20 mins from us.

  • Hi Blackbird mainly we go to Weymouth wetlands or Somerset levels and other similar places,I think everywhere we go there are Water Rails but just seems the one bird that we are fated to miss even though we have heard them close to us.It is just nature really as we are usually lucky and O H is a brilliant spotter as an example we went to Iona and while there saw the Corncrakes so not complaining but it always seems strange but of course we still get enjoyment thinking next time we will get lucky, best wishes.

    Hi,

water rails used to be fairly straight forward at Radipole lake, along the edges at the base of the reeds- unless they have changed their habits :))
