Hi,
here's an idea- I notice periodically in the forums that a common comment is ' I've never seen a ******* '
So if anyone is keen to see a particular species why not ask on here and between us I think we could find some good locations :)

For advice about Birding, Identification, field guides, binoculars, scopes, tripods, etc - put 'Birding Tips' into the search box
Sounds like a plan :-) there is always someone in most parts of the country that can help!
John :-)
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
I would dearly love to see Kingfishers, but they seem quite rare on the NorthEast coast, Sunderland Durham Northumberland area
Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. ~ Mark Twain
there is an excellent 'Where to watch birds in NE England' that should help- I believe the river Coquet weir and estuary may be a regular winter site too.
Lets see if anyone else chimes in:)
Hi everyone would love to see Water Rail but strangely even though we go to lots of places where they are regularly seen we always miss them even though we see the rarer birds at those places, just one of those strange wildlife things.
I myself live in the NE and in newcastle there is a place called Jesmond Dene. There is a river running alongside and I have seen a kingfisher skimming this river before.

Birding , Birding, Birding !
This is a great Idea for sure.
Real handy if you want to target a specific bird.

If its no fun Yer no doin it right!
Hi Seymour
I agree that's a great idea.
I'm one of those who regularly says 'I've never seen a...' . Last night it was Redstart, and you were very helpful with your suggestion of where to try.
A Kingfisher would be good too....
I saw a pair of Lapwings today flapping around together in their strange mating dance, but they were too far away for me to get a good enough photo. I also saw a pair of Kestrels, who were also very shy of the camera. :-(
I will persevere tomorrow.
Best wishes Chris

Hi all - if you have a particular species you want to see you may be able to see them at one of our reserves - if you visit our reserves homepage - http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/index.aspx - scroll down to the bottom and you'll see a "keyword" list (kingfisher is one of them), select the species you want and, Hey presto!, a list of reserves where you should have a good chance of seeing your chosen bird, mammal, plant or habitat....

Is there anywhere on here that will give you bird songs too?
Need to know what a Blackcap sounds like
Yep, here - http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/ - all UK birds listed in alphabetical order and each has a short clip of their song on their page
