Bird of Prey in my garden??

Hello,

I saw this bird swoop and land on my neighbours fence and quickly took a few snaps - could help identify it please?  It was different shades of brown, lighter on the front with claws hooking on to the fence, which makes me think it was some kind of bird of prey?!  The tail was quite long with a stripy pattern.  Beak is straight.  Sorry the photos aren't great but am glad I caught something.  Thanks very much!

  • Hello CBee, It's a Sparrowhawk so all your garden birds will be taking cover as you are right and it is a bird of prey !    they visit gardens regularly if there are feeders around in the hope of snatching a bird

  • Hi Hazel, thank you so much for your help! Wow, that does explain why the two Woodpigeons flew off so quickly! That's really good to know as I do have very popular bird feeders in my garden, so will keep an eye out.

Thanks very much again and hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend :)
