Hi. This is a photo a friend has asked me to identify and I think its a Willow warbler (although originally I thought chiffchaff as I've never seen a willow warbler). She also thinks it's a willow warbler but quite a few people think its a chiffchaff, any help would be great. Thanks
Difficult one Bob unless you can hear the bird or have it in hand to see if the bird is emarginated to the 5th or 6th primary !!! from what I understand the leg colour isn't always 100% correct but dark is usually associated with a Chiffchaff along with difference in wing length (longer on WW) which you can't tell from this photo. I'll leave this one to the experts but going on leg colour Chiffchaff for me !

Thanks Hazel. I did a bit of research and saw chiffchaffs legs are darker. Seems it's rarer to see a willow warbler with darker legs but not unknown.
