Digger Alley - As Seen On TV!

You might have spotted Digger Alley on this year's Springwatch, but now June is winding down the Alley is well and truly OPEN, with plenty of species showing up. This Cliff Mining Bee actually popped its head up whilst we were filming with the BBC in April

But we always reckon the Alley is properly open once the Beewolves appear - and our first one showed up this past weekend

Ornate Bee Fox (Ornate Tailed Digger Wasps) are having trouble though - not sure she's quite got the hang of things yet

Reliable little Oxybelus is digging away like a mad thing

and there are plenty of Green Eyed Flower Bees around - this male taking a few moments to re-fuel

Crickets are getting showy too - there are some impressive antenna on this one!

But the early interest has been with the Sand Wasps, whether digging out - you can see how she carries the sand under her chin

Or burying her prey. And this is a bit of a first for me - she buries two caterpillars in the same hole! All very fascinating....

All that activity makes you hungry - so I'll leave you for now with her having breakfast on a bramble flower
