Hanging around the Viewpoint

For those not able to get onto one of the Deer Safaris, there's a Deer Rut viewpoint accessed via Westleton Heath, over the back of the main reserve.  From here you can see the deer at various times (later in the afternoons have been best in the recent sunny days, though the cooler weather has brought them out from the shade a lot more).

It's not just the deer hanging around the area though, it's quite a popular stopping point for Stonechats

Dartford Warblers

and even a Yellowhammer

Plenty of Corvids about, with Crows especially making a lot of noise (and emulating the jays by burying acorns!)

But it's the Stone Curlews that are the star of the (birding) show.  Not always easy to spot, there are often several hanging around this area, feeding up before their long flight south in a few weeks' time

If you can't find the viewpoint, ask in reception, they'll give you directions :-)

Can you make sure they are all showing well for this Sat as 4 of us are doing a deer safari? Amazing selection of pics WJ, surprised to see the Stone Curlew still about.

Fingers crossed they behave themselves :-)
The Stonies will probably be around for another couple of weeks or so - though who knows with the warm weather we've been having!
