Mike, here is the intro. Thanks. Karen
Last season Maya, the resident Manton Bay female, surprised us arriving back 12 March the earliest date ever recorded at a UK public nest. The resident male, Blue 33(11), her mate since 2015, arrived two days later on 14 March and the pair successfully raised two healthy chicks. More details about the Manton Bay nest, including a table of the breeding data, can be found here.
Here’s wishing Maya and Blue 33 a safe journey home and for another successful season.

Birdies LG DU update.
It looks a bit like baler twine

I got digressed by Dyfi and then went into a fugue, RICHARD, so I haven't checked yet :-/
Lovely couple currently on the nest ;)

I reckon you are right, RICHARD.
I didn't find it coming in, but before it being unearthed from a clump Maya flew in empty-taloned:
(Scuse the size of these pics if too big but I am not resizing.)
I've been watching the nest off/on today and seen no intrusions. Maya and 33 have been on the nest shielding from the wind and there have been a few matings.
33 flew off a little while ago down the bay - fishing?? Maya has just flown off the nest.
Looking at the nest just now I cannot see any of that pink stuff (twine?).
It may of course be buried but I do hope it is not a threat.
I wonder what would happen if it was. I know the nest cannot be accessed as it is now active but if there was a possible threat, would a licence be required\requested for someone to remove it before any eggs were laid?
Impressive evening meal for Maya :)
33's departing tail:
So yes, he did go fishing, KAREN :) If there's a manmade threat I am sure that any necessary permissions would be granted.
Apparently all is well with our couple:
That was a live snap! so may not be the best instant ;)
33 just arrived with a fish and Maya straight to his feet to take it
And she does, by the beak
and then flies off with it
Have seen it before, but not often them taking off with the fish in their beak
After Maya's departure, 33 flew up to the camperch. (shadow showing)
Maya has now returned, small fish devoured ... well it was by 33's standards.
After the appetiser, Maya continues to wait patiently for her main course :-)
