Well spotted Gillian, how lovely to see the Owl on your railway journey, takes bird watching to a whole new level lol !!!

Thanks Hazel! That journey should be called the "Birdwatchers Special" !!! Last winter I saw a tree covered in waxwings as the train pulled out of Carnforth Station and the sands between Arnside and Kents Bank are always full of interesting waders!
Gillian, Lucky you, to see an owl from the train! And Waxwings! I have heard of people keeping a list of 'Birds seen on TV', but never from the train!
Kind regards, Ann
Wow! Thanks for sharing that with us Gillian. As well as it being an amazing experience for you, it is also great for us to know about for our records, as short-eared owls are not commonplace on the saltmarsh (we get a handful of sightings a year) so it is great to know one has been spotted. Thanks very much :)
No problem Annabel! I've been birding at Leighton Moss for many years and this is only the second short-eared owl I've seen on the reserve - just a pity I was on the train without my camera :-( Oh well, maybe he/she will hang around for a while!
