Not sure why this was set as 'Private' on YouTube, but I have now changed it to 'Public'. I filmed it back in April while I was at the reserve with Hazel and Mike.

Interesting behaviour MC, were they using it as a food source? Couldn't be sure but wondered if they were coming out with grubs! Have you tried capturing still images?

They seemed to have found a large supply of grubs by the looks of the video.
Only viewing on nexus at the mo, not as clear as laptop or desktop ... Will look again tomorrow!
I'm not sure what they found in there but it must have been tucked away as they are inside the log for quite some time. I have looked again and they seem to be removing small pieces of wood. Maybe they were excavating a nest? Listen carefully at about the one minute mark and you can hear a female Mallard who almost walked over my feet as I was filming.
I did wonder if they were preparing a nest ... looked it up & it seems that they do favour low down log holes - we live & learn!! Was Mallard cross with you or merely passing the time of day?
She was just waddling along the path and clearly I was in her way. You can hear her chuntering away!
I have put a new hard drive in my laptop so all the pictures taken a Leighton Moss will be on my backup drive and I found the same nest and that’s what I think it was, not sure now if told me to look out for it MC?

I did describe the location to someone, it might well have been you. You also kept an eye on the recently fledged Robins that I filmed if I recall.
That’s right MC I did see the Robins and one of the parents feed from my hand, I might call up again this Thursday and see whats going on.
