Last week we visited the coastal hides. Despite driving very slowly and weaving like a drunkard to try and avoid the water filled potholes we grounded the underside of our car several times.
Don;t know if the damage to the track was contributed to by Network Rail or is just as a result of the bad weather but really would not recommend anyone attempting to drive a "road" car to the coastal hide car park until some of the holes are filled.
Is there any plan for repairs? If so, any idea when?
Hi Alfoz,
Yes the track is in a bit of a mess - the weather has been so wet that we have been unable to repair the potholes so far this year.
We usually endeavour to fill these in at least twice a year, but you cannot repair them when water is still lying (it just turns to mush and comes straight back our again)
Therefore, we've been waiting fgor a dry spell, that just hasn't come!
There's a high pressure system this week, so hopefully we'll be able to make a start by wednesday

Hi Jim, it's dry down to the saltmarsh hides now, so you'll be fine in normal walking boots. Annabel
Hi and Thanks, Annabel, sadly I was walking down to the hides when you posted this and yes the path is dry, I did not see anything special down at the hides so I called in at the reserve, my highlight of the day was seeing the Firecrest but getting a picture showing any colour or makings was a no no sadly.
Sorry for delayed response Jim. Glad you saw the firecrest! Shame about not getting a picture, but a good excuse to come back :) Annabel
No need to apologise, Annabel, I’m sure you have lots to do in your job. I did manage a picture but its not that good :( hope I can get a better shot soon.
Hi Jim,
Thanks for the picture. I'm afraid it is a goldcrest, not the firecrest. Really easy mistake to make from the back, but it lacks the distinctive black eye stripe with a broad white eye stripe above it. Good excuse to come back though :) Annabel
Thanks, Annabel, its still another first for me :) and yes I will be visiting a lot more this year now I’m retired lolJim
Saw photo of repairs.Looks fantastic. Will visit soon. Thanks a lot.
