Allen Hide 05/10/13

I had a couple of hours at the Allen hide this morning. Highlights included a Kingfisher seen three times. It flies across the front of the hide close to the water’s surface on regular occasions. Listen out for its call as its usually heard before its seen. Numerous waders including Redshank, Greenshank, Black-Tailed Godwits, Snipe, Lapwing and one Curlew Sandpiper. Several Little Egrets feeding and a Kestrel hovering quite close to the hide. The waterfowl included Teal, Mallard and Widgeon.

A good morning and a good example of how great this reserve is, two hours of great birding, thanks again Leighton.
