Visit to Fowlmere, 23rd August 2016

The reserve looks lovely at the moment and rewards time spent just watching and listening. The Spring Hide had dragonflies everywhere, 4 willow warblers in the willows, reed warblers being shy and wrens, robins and tits flitting through. A family of at least 4 spotted flycatchers were doing their bit near the main spring where grey wagtails and many butterflies flitted about. Just before the steps up to Mere Hide a linnet was feeding a young one in the bushes and 12+ long tailed tits were all around in a mixed flock. From the hide the mere itself was quiet but blackcaps and willow warblers were on the elderberry bushes to the left. I will try to upload some photos - all taken at a distance!
