Spent a few hours on Sunday walking around Fowlmere and had a really nice time.
I saw the usual suspects...Blue tit, long tailed tit, blackbird, thrush, mallards and the barn owls (can just make out their little faces in the box!).
Then I saw some more interesting birds, first there were the teals seen from the Reedbed Hide. There were 4 males and 3 females.
There was also a close encounter with a sparrowhawk! First I saw a small flock of birds, couldn't ID them then as I was walking the sprawk flew along the path beside me, low, directly at the flock, hunting - awesome!
Finally, I saw the smallest of the British birds, a goldcrest! This was a first and very exciting!
Thanks to the RSPB, it's wonderful to have such a reserve so close.
Hopefully one day next year I'll invest in a nice lens for the camera and start adding some images to my reports :)
Thanks for your positive comments, it's nice to know people appreciate the reserve. It can seem quiet here, but there's always something for those who are prepared to look.
