Water Rails

We decided to pop in to the Drewer Hide as we were leaving last night, and were fortunate enough to see the 'white' water rail as well as a juvenile.  Unfortunately the light was fading, so the photos aren't great, but I wanted to share them anyway.

  • I was there at the same time. The low light didn't help photography, but the views of these birds were excellent. The leucistic bird was visible for at least 20 minutes before it crossed the channel into the central block of reeds, and the juvenile worked its way along the nearest edge of the pool just a few metres from us.

  • We visited on Monday (2/9/13) evening and saw a white Water Rail and juvenile from the Drewer hide, quite a treat!

The juvenile is so very difficult to see as well, if the binoculars were not trained on the the white Water Rail and the juvenile walked into the middle of the view I don't believe I would have noticed it skulk in the reeds.
