Always Watching, Always Listening
Had a look in my wildlife book and I think it might be a SOUTHERN HAWKER. It's a great photo and with luck I might get to see one myself soon as we plan to visit Old Moor some time in next couple of days.

Thanks Melonie my wildlife book doesn't show Southern Hawker, great excuse to buy a better book at the Birdfair this year, but seeing photos on the internet of Southern Hawker it looks a cert, Thanks
You are welcome. The book is a Collins photoguide book, COMPLETE BRITISH WILDLIFE. I have had this copy for a few years now but there are other books that appear to have the same title, which is confusing, so if you do buy a copy it's ISBN number is 0-583-33638-8 and on the front cover there are pics of an owl, butterfly, snake, starfish, acorns, flower and fancy toadstool or mushroom. It was 14.99 but I have seen it for sale on amazon for less, and that was new copies. It's a really good guide and makes identifying things ever so easy (still a learner at this game so it's my bible) Have fun
Yep mines a collins COMPLETE British Wildlife, different ISBN number so mine might be one of the wonky ones thanks for help and comment on photo hope you have a good day at Old Moor
Definitely Southern Hawker, Aeshna cyanea.
