We have never had a home with a brook/stream before.....a rushing torrent, off the mountain, following heavy rain......part of it is wider (before it reaches the culvert)........would any wild life benefit if we deepened it a bit? do we keep it totally leaf clear or leave some dead leaves on the side?
Hi Geraint, i'd say leave as is regarding depth, it's probably got it's own little eco-system living there. As for the leaves, many birds forgae amongst leaf litter over winter so don't clear them all away. They will break down naturally over time and the nutrients will be reabsorbed into the soil.
Have you seen any birds drinking or bathing in the stream?
