I made a quick visit to my parents place last weekend and had a quick look in the pond I dug for them a couple of years ago. It has been a success with frogs breeding in it two springs in a row and a number of cool invert's like backswimmers and the occasional damselfly. However, on peering into the depths I noticed some movement around the edge under some of the surviving water lily leaves and caught a brief glimpse of a frogs leg before it vanished into the aquatic vegetation.
Has anyone else seen any movement in their ponds this late in the year? It may just be that the frogs in the Midlands are super hardy!

Must admit I haven't looked too closely into my pond....however, it is certainly relatively mild compared to last winter. The pond has had a little ice on it but it has melted quickly each time. The birds are still happily bathing in it - mainly the blackbirds and sparrows.

I’ve seen frogs in my pond recently and heard one plop into the pond as I walked past today. I also noticed a group of about 40 Whirligig beetles on the surface. I wonder where they go when the pond is frozen?
Build it and they will come.
What winter?
