I've a small pond down my garden, its just one of those pre-formed liners. I've plenty of rocks, so if any birds/hedgehogs go in they can get out. Last week, there was a rather large frog floating on the surface, the only thing I can think of is that it got to cold and died. I fished it out with a stick and have buried it amongs the pile of logs, hopefully the dog won't find it. My pond doesn't have an waterfall or fountain, I just made it for the wildlife and it does it own thing. However, I don't want to find any more dead frogs, which wasn't very pleasant. Any suggestions or was it just the very cold spell we have had.

I expect it was just a natural winter fatality.
Every year we always lose a goldfish or 2 in the pond over the winter.

It's not always easy to hug a hedgehog.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
Hi I think you have it about right when you say about the cold spell, we get a lot of frogs in our pond and some years they return very early to spawn, last year i fished out 5 dead frogs our pond surface had frozen overnight. Up to now this year I have not seen any at all so i hope they stay away for a bit longer. i know it is not very nice finding any dead animals but this must happen time after time around the country.

Have you got a football you could float on the surface? It should keep and area of your ponds surface clear of ice if we have another cold spell.
Your frog probably drowned. It would have gone under the water, the surface froze and the frog couldn’t come up for air. It is important to keep an area of your pond ice free if you can.
Build it and they will come.

I think that wildlife friendly might be right.
Sadly, it sounds quite likely that he got stuck under the ice and drowned.
