Are you sure you haven't got crossed wires with this fairly recent social media joke?
"Ex Bayern Munich midfielder Torsten Frings has been caught stealing seabirds for sausages. Looks like Frings has taken a tern for the wurst"
I'm hoping that is the case and nobody is doing anything untoward to any birds.

Zenodotus (3rd Century B.C.)
Sounds a bit far fetched. When is this supposed to have happened? There won't be any tern chicks around until June/July time.

Thanks guys - and a great joke. On a different thread in another galaxy far, far away some Canadian was accusing me of hypocrisy for being against the resumption of their seal cull "whilst Scottish footballers are biting the heads off tern chicks"
Some Canadian, whoever they are, should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Sick joke. Not funny at all.
I don't think this is funny either, and the whole thread should be deleted from the Forum, but I do not know how to contact any Mods to do that!

Hi everyone, sorry for the delay in responding to this but I was busy yesterday. I am happy to delete it if everyone is happy for it to be removed, I don't think any malice or intentional harm was meant to be caused from it but I can understand how some may be offended.
I don't necessarily want to keep the thread going but could this possibly be in relation to this? - www.bbc.co.uk/.../uk-scotland-highlands-islands-25824667
Seems quite likely this is the real basis of this story BA, much distorted in the retelling as often happens! An extremely disgusting tradition though & obviously the people who indulge in this barbaric practice need to get themselves a useful life!!
Wendy, I can't agree with you enough. I also agree with Ben in that Simon didn't start this thread with any malicious intent - clearly someone with a less than nice outlook decided to look for an excuse to have a go at him.

Wendy I couldn't agree with you more, this is a barbaric tradition that needs to be stopped, the Scottish SPCA are trying hard to stop it and I hope one day they will succeed.
However I do not think this is a "great joke" at all! Nothing remotely amusing about it.
