So far i think these look very nice and fit in really nicely in my garden xxxxx. I`d still take any advice about nesting birds plus tips about nest boxes xx

again this is a pic of my garden, does anyone have advice on where the best place for a couple more bird houses/nest boxes would be? or is there a risk of having too many? i also have a side garden thats not visible on the pic but its about half the size of this 1 and is surrounded by the same fence and a tree in corner xxx any tips welcomed as i wouldn`t like to deter any birds by doing 1 or the other xxx
Hi Ellie
Thanks for posting your question, i'll move it to the forum about nest boxes.
Adding more nesting boxes is a positive step for the wildlife in your garden, if more birds don't use them, maybe bees or woodmice will. It pays to have a range of boxes for a range of different species, each one located in a place suited to the target species. Blue tits for example will go for a box with a 25mm hole facing north or east on an exposed wall or fence (as long as it's safe from cat attack). House sparrows like to nest close to one another and need a 32mm hole usually above 2 metres, again facing north or east. Ideally under the eaves of your house.
Robins and wrens take to open fronted boxes located amongst vegetation, the back wall of your garden looks ideal for them.

Hi
I've merged these threads together, looks like you have found a few suitable places already! Let us know if they attract any interest!
Nest box usage can be a bit hit and miss!
I have several up some have been used some not.
Sometimes a well used box is unused one year but others are!
I think as long as you have different types in different places the birds will eventually use them.
It's not always easy to hug a hedgehog.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
If you have feeders near nest boxes, will it stop birds from using them?
Ail
Thanks Alan,
I was a bit worried about the feeders, as I have a three nest boxes on our wall, which has large bushes. So it's nice an secluded for them.
I find hanging the feeders on the branches seems to attract the birds there, probably because it's safe, but so far I'm not seeing any birds using the nest boxes.
