I put up a new nest box last November and blue tits have been interested to the extent they carefully removed all the shredded paper (provided with the nest box) I had put in. Hubby has just installed a camera for me. The box floor now has poo in it, presumably from the blue tits who were spring cleaning and very likely roosting there some nights.
My question is, should I leave the poo, or would it be better to clean it out? I am worried about doing too much in case I frighten them away. You never know which beady eyes are watching when you get a ladder out!
Cheers, Linda.

My blue tit is still roosting every night, and mid morning a blue tit pays two or three fleeting visits - very fleeting - and leaves with a small down feather or something in its beak. The photo below shows how mucky the box is. Do you think there will be a nest to follow, or could it be simply a bachelor pad as Elibee says hers was?
I took the photo direct off my TV screen with a camera so there is interference. Hubby hasn't connected the box camera up to my computer yet, although the scart things have arrived. Dosen't this chap or chapess look cuddly? He is fast asleep and very puffed out.
Ahhhhhh - lovely photo Sparrow. (S)he seems very cosy there. Thanks for sharing that.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Sparrow, what an adorable little bundle. That must be a joy to watch.
Oh how adorable! Its hard to tell which way the head is pointing, lol!
Hope you get a nest in there, would be really interesting to see!
Mine is still empty, although I don't mind really. Although I expected with the bad weather someone would have wanted the shelter for the night. Still in the early stages here though :o)
My bluetit is still roosting every night. Today it has been popping in and out all day, removing poo. Still a lot to go though! Again the photo was taken with my camera directly off the TV screen, so poor quality. Hopefully hubby will find time tomorrow to get it sorted out so I can see the box on my computer and download photos and videos.
.
Hi sparrow,
He's soooo sweet, I want one.
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!

There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.
That is so cute. I have a box on my garage which the blue tits have been in and out of, but i don't like to look too closely incase i scare them off.
We have a next box with a web cam at school and the kids were amazed by the images from last year. We are hoping for a repeat performance this year, but no takers yet.

I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

That's another great photo Sparrow. Well done.
Hi Sparrow, I have tried to see your second photograph, both last night and this morning, but still no luck. I will keep trying. Great to hear your blue tit is still using your box though.
