Sparrow Nest Box

This box is in its third year. The first year we had two broods and last year three.

A male has been roosting in it all winter.

A snapshot taken yesterday: The male has been sitting on top advertising this des res for a week or so.There was a pair popping in and out yesterday and some token nesting material.

This morning they are sitting eyeballing each other and as soon as one moves the other pounces on it.

The shenanigans in the nest box continue. More straw was brought in by the male and the female spent the day clearing out the droppings leaving him perched on top chirping away. In the evening she went to bed early so that when he tried to get in his roosting box she was already there. She pinned him to the floor pecking away under one of his wings. I was just about to go out to tap on the box when he managed his escape. She spent the night there while he made a few plaintive attempts to regain his roost, finally giving up when it got dark.

This morning at six (still dark) the box was empty.

He has been in with more straw but no sign of her
