Suet cake ingredients

Hi, when it says use dried fruit like currants etc I'm worried about the preservatives they use in most bags of fruit , so is soaking the fruit a way to get rid of some of the  preservatives and what about using thawed frozen summer fruits or is that to wet to put in suet.
