As autumn is usually a good time for putting up nesting boxes I figured I would ask you all if you have dabbled in adding a few more? Boxes for birds are the obvious ones but what about bat, hedgehog and insect boxes, anyone adding these to their gardens?
Warden Intern at Otmoor.
Shall be adding more insect boxes for sure and plan to build a 'hotel' too! I have the bricks with ventilation holes and some sand for the base, also some chunks of bark. Just need some logs, dry (!) leaves, and bamboo canes to build it up in layers...
Not really anywhere suitable for bird boxes unfortunately....

Hi Ian, you know the pile of leaves that you just saw in our garden ? well thats the new home for hedgehogs and insects LOL !
We did have to replace a couple of bird boxes as GSWoody destroyed them last year :( now got metal hole protectors on all and will try and secure rest of box somehow !

Good luck finding dry leaves!
At some point in the next couple of weeks i'm intending on whipping together some spare canes into bundles, depending on how many I can make the plan was to fasten some amongst ivy and some in more exposed places that catch a bit of sunlight.
Great ideas chaps, I have still a lot to learn about making new homes for our garden visitors.
I find nesting boxes, roosting pockets and other wildlife homes make decent presents as well for those that are tricky to buy for, much better than 'dust collectors'!!!
