Positioning nest boxes on house

I have a semi detached house with three open sides which face East, South and West and want to put up House Martin boxes and House Sparrow boxes. General guidance is that boxes should be positioned on North or East facing walls. I don’t have a North facing wall and my East facing wall overlooks a smallish garden about 12 feet in length before the pavement and a fairly busy road. I am a bit reluctant to put the sparrow box on the East wall because any chicks will be fluttering down into the garden/pavement or road . Am I right in thinking that the House Martins are stronger flyers from the off and that this wouldn’t be so much of a problem?
