I should also say that my South facing wall faces my neighbours house so isn’t exposed to the full sun all day. My West wall overlooks secluded gardens and gets the afternoon sun.xexe I have quite deep eaves of aroundxe 12- 14 inches all round the house which should provide some shade.xe I’m thinking of putting the sparrow box on the West end of the South facing wall.

Nest boxes are best facing North to East, not sure with House Martins but they are well under the eaves so a little sun won't be a problem. will check.

edit Same as other nest boxes,but sure I have seen house martins on south walls but well under the eaves.

I live in a bungalow and was given a sparrow terrace for Christmas. Does anyone know if there is a minimum height that nest boxes can be situated? I am concerned that the box would only be about ten feet from the ground. I already have a blue tit box on that wall (but at about 6') which the tits did not use. Sparrows are so few around here but I do have quite a few coming to my garden, so I would like to encourage them if possible.
