Hi, we've had a pair of blue tits nesting in the box in our garden. Up until this year we've always had wrens and it was a nice change to have the tits. Mum and Dad were guarding the nest and flitting in and out very often to feed the chicks which we could hear cheeping (something my daughter thought was fantastic!) but in the last couple of days we haven't seen either of the adult birds or heard the chicks in the box. It turns out on opening the box that the chicks are all dead! Any suggestions as to why this may have happened? Mum & Dad seemed to be paying lots of attention and giving plenty of food then all of a sudden, nothing. It's made me quite sad I have to say.
That is very sad and distressing for you, but we have had so many similar stories on the forum this year that I have lost count. It seems to have been a very bad year for bluetits in gardens. I haven't got the answer I'm afraid.
Cheers, Linda.

Hi Mango and Sparrow,
Sorry to hear of you news.
We have a distressed household at present with similar blue tit drama from nesting box with camera.....9 eggs laid...6 chicks hatched on 20th May...all going well but only seems to be Mrs Bluetit feeding as lone parent family.....this evening Mrs Bluetit hasn't returned to nest at dusk and 6 lonely chicks.....distressed wife and kids staring at tv anxiously.
Lets hope this is not another family of bluetits on the way out. TV now off and just hoping for better news in the morning.....she's not done this before...
Dickybird
Oh dear Dickybird. Fingers crossed for the brood.
She's back....! Huge relief in family.
All chicks seem ok. Perhaps she just fancied a night away from the kids...?
Hi Mango.butterfly and Dickybird
And a big hello and welcome from the Irish fraternity in Co Cavan Ireland, not a good start to your time on the forum ,buts there seems to be lots of reports of chicks dying , maybe it's to do with the way the weather has turned out ,causing a lack of natural food for the chicks, pleased to here you Blue-tit parent has returned Dickybird, hope things turn out well.
Hope you enjoy your time on here with the rest of us
Regards Mick
