hello all this is my first post i have had blue tits nesting in my camera box for a few years now with very few problems this year has been heart breaking started with 10 eggs 8 off which hatched all looking good then 3 days later only 3 chicks remain devastated gets worse the next day one chick left but no sign of dead chicks she must have removed them from nest last chick doing well fingers crossed been a bad year here in cheshire

It seems all the bad weather is having an effect on the way the parents are not finding the right sort of food for the young (caterpillars) ect, are not coming out in time with the arrival of the chicks, here in Ireland we have not had as much rain as you ,but some very cold winds,there are a few people saying it's not nice to see this all happening on the web cams ,but that's nature ,and they will still have time (hopefully) for another brood

hi mick and thank you for your comment i had a feeling it was a food shortage but the one remaining chick is doing well but the mum is still finding it difficult in finding food

We have had a similar experience with the blue tit nest in our camera box. On 19 May 7 eggs hatched. By 21 May we could see only 4 chicks. Today there is only 1 chick left. But there is no sign of the dead chicks. What happens to them? Do the parents remove them from the nest?
hi yes i think they remove them from the nest it is heart breaking this is the first year this has ever happened they just cant find enough food it is all too do with the lack of rain there are hardly any catterpillers lets hope this weather dosent continue all the bird life is suffering right accross the country hopefully they will all be back in full force next year
