hello everyone
just joined this site and wondered if anyone can explain what is going on in our nesting box,it is a new box but it in the same place as our old one in which this same blue tit has raised her familys in the past, she hes been sleeping in the new box all winter and in spring she started to build a nest with her mate, then all of a sudden both birds began franticaly emptying the box,and they seem to have abandoned it. can anyone think of a reason for this?
Hi Tiger feet, it could be that it is a different pair, maybe the original were ousted from the site or one of them didn't make it. Alternatively it could be that they were disturbed at the site by a predator or something and have decided to try elsewhere in their territory. Usually they have a few possible options for nesting in their territory in case something goes wrong with a chosen site. Keep an eye on things and see where they end up going, let us know what happens!
