Good Morning.. Looking for a bit of advice.. I had a Great-Tit nesting in a Camera-Box and she was sitting on 7 eggs.. I looked in at her last night before going to bed and she had gone.Lots of Tail/Wing Feathers in the box and Down around the entrance Hole but no Bird, so obvioulsy something has had her.. What should I do about the eggs ? I dont want to leave them there, as the Box was pretty popular so it might be used by anotehr Bird , but am I allowed to move the eggs legally ? Any advice would be welcome..
Chas.
I agree with Alan - I would leave them just in case she comes back. Would there be a dad who would be feeding too?
Sue
Hi Chas,
I have two camera boxes & have experienced similar things over the years.
Weasels commonly predate nest boxes but they would no doubt also take the eggs; cats will get a paw in if the box is not damaged are probably the cause.
I agree with Alan & Sue, best to hang on a while; I doubt that she will return but you never know & it is unlikely that another bird will take over.
Stranger things have happened; I remember cleaning out a box many years ago & found a bird had built on top of a nest full of dead nestlings.
Regards Norm.
