Hi all,
Firstly ... Im new here so i hope i have posted in right place?
And the reason im here is i purchased a nesting box with a camera and this year a couple of Blue tits have chosen our box to nest in ... nesting etc all complete and on Monday morning we woke to find an egg had been laid. Mrs tit still goes in of an evening and sleeps on egg but no others have been laid! Is this normal as i thought they laid one per day and we are on day 3 with still ony 1 egg? Is it an only child or could more follow?
Thanks in advance, Leaby (",)
Hi Leaby, welcome and hope you enjoy forum and good luck with the box, first are you sure there is only one egg as they often cover them up when not in the nest, otherwise be patient and see what happens as could be lots of reasons from just deserting the nest to really bad weather to the bird having come to a sad end.Hope it turns out well.
Hi Leaby and welcome to the forum. I can't answer your question but just wanted to say hello, and hope Mrs tit does produce more eggs.

Hi Sooty and Appleanne and thankyou for your replies ....
Mrs Tit is still sleeping in our box and tonight was tucking her little egg in and rolling it around abit!
Im wondering if they can lay every couple of days instead of everyday as pretty certain still only one in there as got a good look tonight whilst she was rolling it about!
Very fascinating ... im lovinig it but also feeling very protective of them so hope all goes well for the little cuties.
Thanks again :)
Hi Alan,
Thank you for reply and welcome.
I will keep you posted .... This morning still one egg only but she is still coming to box a lot with hair and feathers so she's upto something! Maybe first egg was a premature baby! Will let yas know :)
Ah I was having a stab in the dark but sounds possible then .. I hope so or at least hope the one she has hatches into a healthy baby for her as she has been very dedicated bless her.
Ps would loved to have seen the goose ... Right time, right place Alan
Egg is still an only child but Mrs tit still adding feathers to her nest! Not sitting on her egg all day yet though, only at night with the odd snuggle in the day!
2 eggs tonight :)
Haha Alan.
Is it still odd behaviour that there was 5 days between eggs! I read that they laid every consecutive day!
Looks like that might have been the case Alan, 3 eggs this morning and I actually got to see he lay the 3rd :)
