I've had a rspb terrace box for years and haven't had success.
As Aiki has said ref the chicks falling, don't worry they will be ok.

Thanks for the replies! I understand that birds will only do what comes naturally. I guess it just adds a slight feeling of responsibility when offering something unnatural for them to use. We'll see how it goes!
Hi Doggie. That is certainly another option. I only mention the eaves as that's where a lot of websites recommend that you put them, plus it would offer some form of protection from the wind and rain. If I were to put them lower down, they would just be stuck in the middle of the wall with no shelter at all - I wonder if anybody else has had success with this type of placement....
Thanks for your answers! I haven't had any nest box takers in the garden yet, so it might be that I haven't found the right spot. I think I'll give your suggestion a trial!
